TIME SERVED

     quantum mechanics is reversible,
but thermodynamics not

A measure of our ignorance,
time’s film runs backward, curling up.
Events would happen all at once
were past to read as leaves in cup.

Time’s film runs backward, curling up;
zero is the pebble’s imprint.
When past gets read through leaves in cup
alternate stories teasing glint.

Zero is your pebble’s imprint;
each bubble parent by its free will.
Alternate stories teasing glint
in bladderwrack worlds stood still.

Each bubble parent by its free will,
yet string gets knotted as we foreknow.
Though bladderwrack worlds stand still,
dark broken bonds direct the flow.

So string gets knotted, this we foreknow;
all involves some quantum weirdness.
Dark broken bonds direct its flow,
chaos inflates the randomness.

How to solve this quantum weirdness?
Events can’t happen all at once:
chaos inflates their randomness,
shows measure of our ignorance.

  1. A nonsense pantoum inspired by how physics may explain the notion of a multiverse is not exactly the poetry I'd hope to be writing. But after a 12 month hiatus, completing the technical challenge has some satisfaction & helps get me back in the groove. Rather a triumph of form over content, however.
